List of photographers in the Macedon Ranges doing online well.

Up until 2 years ago I was based in Hawthorn, Melbourne. I have my favourite photographers that i have worked with for years, but as an experiment i wanted to see what kind of photographers were based in the ranges. This experiment is purley online based and I havent actually met most of the people running these businesses. *This is just a web designer giving my honest feedback based on google rankings and the sites that appear when googling ‘ Google photographers in the macedon ranges ‘ and if

  1. The Urban Sparrow - https://theurbansparrow.com/

With only 52 backlinks, the sparrow does well for google positioning. A nice clean site with heaps of information, targeting weddings, family and business. Some of the images have been downscaled for online and some users may get quality issues depending on their screen sizes.

Upgrades

  • I would personally remove the slideshow on the landing page, most users will only see 2 and it can take away from the messaging.

  • I would go full black and white on the site and use the orange from the sparrow to highlight call-to-action buttons, remove the greens and pinks.

  • Have more imagery on the landing and less directions, there is too much portfolio, investment, miss directions, clean that up as people can find these in the navigation

  • Push socials higher up the page

  • Update the footer 2024, people see this and think your lazy.

  • Remove the link in the bottom right, people are actually clicking this.

Keep adding content, your starting to rank for the macedon ranges, so keep up the good work.

2. Journey By Light - www.journeybylight.com.au

Nice, 300 backlinks and good amount of traffic each month, i am surprised this insight higher than the Urban Sparrow. Nice easy Squarespace site.

Upgrades

  • Below the fold it goes straight into Adam, I believe people are still trying to see your work and don’t give a crap about you yet. Less about you and more about what you can offer the user who probably has 10 other photographer sites open.

  • I like the pop up for the newsletter, but there is no carrot on the stick, give me something like a $50 credit, then i will give you my email address.

  • You are offering weddings, family, landscape, and business photography. I would niche down on your best skill set and if you have other people who specialize in those areas, set up different sites for those skills. Its easy to think your going to capture everyone and you might get some of each, but not the best of one.

  • Again, update the footer 2024, people see this and think your lazy. This can be automated.

  • Take away covid-18 updates.

  • Site is running pretty slow on mobile, i would get the below updated for a better user experience asap.,

I will keep adding to this as i review more. Thanks for watching.
