The Reality

WooCommerce is
holding you back.

WooCommerce got you to revenue. That's the good news. The bad news is that it was never designed to scale with you. What started as a free WordPress plugin is now a patchwork of 40 plugins, a hosting bill that keeps climbing, and a developer relationship that's mostly about keeping things from breaking.

The hosting alone tells the story. To run WooCommerce at any real volume, you need managed WordPress hosting, a CDN, a WAF, regular database optimisation, and someone on call when your server falls over during a promotion. Shopify absorbs all of that. The platform handles hosting, security, PCI compliance, and server scaling at the infrastructure layer. You stop paying for uptime and start investing in growth.

Plugin conflicts are the other killer. Every WooCommerce store has at least one plugin that breaks when another plugin updates. Resolving those conflicts is pure overhead: developer time spent fixing problems that Shopify's native feature set or App Store simply never creates. Abandoned plugin authors, unmaintained extensions, and WordPress core updates that ripple through your entire stack are a recurring tax on your business.

Shopify's checkout, subscription tooling, and B2B features are now genuinely better than anything WooCommerce can assemble from plugins. If you're above $500k in annual revenue and still on WooCommerce, the cost of staying is higher than the cost of moving. The only question is when.

When To Move

You'll know when
the pain is real.

Most WooCommerce migrations are triggered by a specific breaking point. Here are the three we see most often, and what they mean for timing.

01

Plugin conflict or site crash

A plugin update breaks your checkout on a busy weekend. Orders stop. You're on the phone to a developer at 11pm. This is the single most common trigger we see for WooCommerce migrations. Once it happens once, it's going to happen again. Migration takes six to eight weeks; don't start it the week after a crash when emotions are running high. Start it the week after when you're calm and have a clear scope.

02

Revenue growth hitting infrastructure limits

Your hosting can't handle your peak traffic. Load times are climbing. You're looking at another server upgrade. This is the clearest financial argument for migration: you're about to spend more on infrastructure than the migration itself costs, and you'll face the same ceiling again in 18 months. Shopify's infrastructure scales automatically. You pay for what you need, not what you fear you might need.

03

You want features WooCommerce can't do cleanly

Subscriptions that don't break. B2B with net payment terms and tiered pricing. A checkout that converts on mobile. Shopify Markets for multiple currencies. These aren't add-ons on Shopify; they're first-class features. If you're trying to build any of them on WooCommerce, you're duct-taping plugins together. Migrate first, build on a stable foundation second.

Migration Expertise

Every data point.
Cleanly moved.

A WooCommerce migration isn't just a product import. It's a full data architecture rethink, a plugin replacement audit, and an SEO operation. We handle all of it.

01

Product & Catalogue Data

Products, variants, custom attributes, product categories, tags, and meta fields all move across cleanly. WooCommerce's custom product types (bundles, composites, subscriptions) get mapped to their Shopify equivalents. Nothing lives in a plugin field that doesn't have a home on the other side.

02

Customer & Order History

Full order history with line items, shipping, taxes, and customer records migrates intact. Your customers keep their purchase history, your finance team keeps their records, and you keep your repeat-purchase data for Klaviyo segmentation. We run parallel imports against a staging store before touching production.

03

SEO Redirect Strategy

WooCommerce URLs and Shopify URLs are structured differently. We map every category, product, and blog post URL to its new destination and implement 301 redirects before DNS cutover. Your Google rankings do not take a hit because the redirect file wasn't ready. We've done this enough times to have a repeatable process that works.

04

Plugin Replacement Audit

Every WooCommerce plugin gets audited before migration. Some have direct Shopify App Store equivalents. Some are replaced by Shopify native features. Some are rebuilt as custom Shopify functions or theme extensions. We document every replacement and don't migrate until every plugin's function has a home on the new platform.

05

Theme & Storefront Build

Your WooCommerce theme doesn't come across; a better one gets built in its place. We design and build a Shopify theme that matches your brand, loads faster than your WordPress site, and converts better on mobile. If you want a fully custom headless build, we do that too via Hydrogen or Next.js connected to the Storefront API.

06

Integration Rewiring

WooCommerce had its own integration layer, usually a mix of plugin APIs and webhooks. Shopify has a cleaner API surface and a mature middleware ecosystem. We rewire your ERP, 3PL, POS, and marketing stack connections to the Shopify Admin API, ensuring order flow, inventory sync, and customer data land where they should on day one.

How We Migrate

Six weeks.
No surprises.

01 / AUDIT

Discovery & Scope

We audit your WooCommerce database, plugin list, SEO footprint, and integration map. We document every custom field, every product type quirk, and every third-party dependency. The output is a migration blueprint with no unknowns.

02 / BUILD

Shopify Store Setup

We build your Shopify store in parallel with the data work: theme, app stack, payment gateways, shipping zones, and tax configuration. By the time the data is ready to move, the store is ready to receive it.

03 / MIGRATE

Data Transfer & QA

We run a full migration to a staging store, verify every product, customer, and order, and test every integration. The 301 redirect file is loaded and verified. UAT runs with your team before anything goes near production DNS.

04 / LAUNCH

Cutover & Handoff

A final delta migration syncs the last 24 to 48 hours of orders. DNS flips. We monitor for the first 72 hours and remain available for the first two weeks post-launch. Handoff includes full documentation and a training session for your team.
